The TWPS Canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during school term. The Canteen offers lunch orders, counter sales of snack food and “Birthday Buckets” on days it is open.
Lunch orders and orders for Birthday Buckets must be placed via FlexiSchools. Lunch and Birthday Bucket orders must be received by 9:00am on the day they are to be supplied.
Two children from each classroom are nominated as Canteen Monitors each week. The Canteen Monitors collect the lunch orders for their classroom.
To assist with preparation and serving.
Although TWPS employs a Canteen Manger, we do need Volunteers on days the Canteen is open to help with the smooth running of orders. Helping can range from picking up the bread order weekly and drop off to Canteen, labelling, making, serving, cleaning up.
To ensure that Canteen is run efficiently with enough help we have a monthly roster you can sign up to. We appreciate forward notice if you are unable to attend on your rostered shift, as this gives us a chance to put a call out for alternate helpers.
We aim to make volunteering in the Canteen a fun experience! Tea/coffee and lunch is provided for volunteers. If you would like to volunteer in the Canteen or have any questions, please contact the Canteen Manager.
Whilst every effort is made to ensure children are not exposed to common allergens in their lunch orders, due to the nature of the food supply chain it is not possible to guarantee this. If you child has a severe reaction to a food allergen, we recommend that they do not use the Canteen.
The Canteen policy for the most common food allergens as defined by the NSW Food Authority is:
Eggs: Menu items containing fresh cooked eggs are prepared after all other items and gloves are disposed of afterwards. Mayonnaise contains eggs, as may pre-packaged biscuits and some pastas.
Peanuts: These have been removed (with the exception of pre-packaged biscuits, which may include traces of this allergen).
Treenuts: These have been removed (with the exception of pre-packaged biscuits, which may include traces of this allergen).
Milk: We serve milk only in sealed, individual portions.
Soy: We serve soy only in sealed, individual portions.
Seafoods: These have been removed, with the exception of tuna/salmon. Tuna is supplied by an external vendor in individual portion containers. Menu items containing tuna/salmon are prepared after all other items and gloves are disposed of afterwards.
Crustaceans: These have been removed.
Sesame seeds: These have been removed (with the exception of our bread supplier occasionally sprinkling sesame seeds onto rolls).
Gluten: This is contained in many of the bread products used in the Canteen. However, gluten free options are available.
The Canteen meets the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy Food and Drink Benchmark. This classifies food as everyday or occasional. Further information can be found on the Healthy School Canteens website.
The canteen is working towards everyday items making up at least 75% of menu items, with occasional items making up no more than 25% of the menu. Many items that are occasional, such as potato chips and crumbed chicken, may have portion controlled sizes.
As parents/caregivers will appreciate, finding a balance between providing healthy options and providing options that children will actually eat can sometimes be difficult.
Your feedback and suggestions on our menu are always welcome.
